A 10th-grade reading test will be required before students can be approved to register for the class. You will receive a phone call and or an email from a cosmetic art Instructor to schedule the exam after filling out the registration form. You must bring your government-issued ID AND Social Security card OR tax ID to the reading test exam for verification.

Any student registering for a cosmetic arts class will be required to create an account with the state board, uploading a photocopy of their social security card and government-issued ID. Students will need to visit https://accesshub.nccosmeticarts.com/ to create their account and upload their documents.

Course Description:

This comprehensive course provides instruction and clinical practice in manicuring, nail building (application and maintenance of artificial nails), and pedicuring. The course content includes nail anatomy, disorders of nails, and irregularities of nails; theory and salesmanship as it relates to manicuring; actual practice in manicuring; and arm, hand, and foot massage. Manicurist students must complete 300 hours in an approved beauty school or college before applying to the State Board of Cosmetic Arts for examination. Students enrolled only in manicuring shall only perform services directly relating to the prescribed course in manicuring. Please note, this is a comprehensive course to provide training for those persons interested in becoming registered manicurists only and not desiring to become licensed cosmetologists.

When completed, you can apply to sit for the written and practical exams for licensing.  Estimated cost of exams: $168.00. This is an additional cost you pay to take the exam after graduating from the course. This class does not require a high school diploma.

The Manicuring program is set up from the start of class to not only prepare you for the exams required by the NC Cosmetic Arts State Board but also simulate a working environment, where professionalism is very important. We do have an attendance policy, a dress code, and daily responsibilities, the same as those expected in the workforce.  The student salon located on the MTCC Marion campus is open to the public. This is where you will gain the majority of your hands-on experience while being assisted by your instructors. For questions about this class, you may call Cortney Snyder at 828-652-0610.
