Basic Trail Construction and Sustainability

5 Day Class (40 hrs) + optional certification (1.5-3hrs)

Monday - Friday 8a-5p

Description

Trails are designed and built over a wide range of terrain and for various users like hikers, bikers, horseback riders and ATV riders. This comprehensive course covers trail types and user expereiences to provide students with the "why", "what", "where" and "who" of trail construction. (4hrs)

From this understanding, we move to basic trail assessment and maintenance techniques so that students learn to effectively evaluate trail condition and how to make repairs, the "how". Basic trail tools are introduced and applied during the field session. (8hrs)

Safety is always important, so Trail Safety and use of Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) is covered. (4hrs). *Students call elect to take an online American Heart Asssociation First Aid/CPR/AED course and if completed this class will serve as the "hands-on session".

Online course: Fee $19.50 + card fee $20 (https://shopcpr.heart.org/heartsaver-first-aid-cpr-aed-onlineThis course is designed to be completed in 1.5 to 3 hours. You will need to bring your certificate of completion and $20 Card Fee to the class.

Chainsaws are powerful and potentially dangerous tools, which have become much safer over time.  Comprehensive training and practice will make you a safer sawyer.   This class covers basic chainsaw maintenance and safety and can lead to a USFS Chainsaw Certification.  *This is the new National Sawyer Database program released July 15th 2023 by the USFS.  The course is now 3 days and consists of 1 day classroom and 2 days in the field practicing safe cutting techniques. (24hrs)
